Dr. Michael Koren, a practicing cardiologist and certified physician investigator, directs activities at Jacksonville Center for Clinical Research (JCCR), a multispecialty research organization with eight locations. Since its inception in 1997, JCCR has conducted more than 1000 trials involving over 100 investigators, including physicians in the Republic of Panama with the Pan-American Medical Research Institute (PAMRI). JCCR has developed several initiatives through its Encore Research Group subsidiary, including Ask 100 Doctors, a patented, national online consulting and consensus building tool for physicians and e-TrialDoc, a software system to help Encore member research sites conduct studies and various training programs.

Dr. Koren is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He also serves as the Director of Non-Invasive Cardiology at Memorial Hospital Jacksonville and principal in the Apex Cardiovascular Group. Dr. Koren has participated in the fellowship-training program of the Division of Cardiology, University of Florida School of Medicine, and has taught many local and visiting physicians through preceptorships in clinical research and non-invasive cardiology. He has served as lead principal investigator for several large multiple-centered trials including ALLIANCE (a pivotal statin study/JACC Article ID 1136072); ROLE (ranolazine safety study/JACC Article ID 1188795); and MENDEL (monoclonal antibody against PCSK9/TheLancet.com Article ID PIIS0140-6736(12)61771-1).

Dr. Koren graduated Brandeis University and Harvard Medical School with honors. During his medical school training, he completed additional course work at the Harvard School for Public Health and wrote an M.D. thesis involving computer decision analysis. Dr. Koren received his postdoctoral training at Cornell University Medical Center in internal medicine and cardiology. During his postdoctoral training, Dr. Koren served as a third-year chief resident, held a faculty position and published several papers and abstracts.

In recent years, Dr. Koren has become interested in “the research of research.” He has presented abstracts on this subject at national meetings. A past president of the Academy of Physicians in Clinical Research (APCR), he now serves on the Board of Directors of the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) . He enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters.
